Week 28

This week was definitely a wild one!

So earlier in the week, we had been contacting a bunch of people and not getting much success, when suddenly we got an email about a random referral in our area! Wooooo!! But before we could even call her, we received another email for another random referral in our area!! WOOOOO!! #blessed

And if you've noticed, your Facebook feed is probably much more dense with missionaries right now - pictures, posts, videos, etc. That's because we are still on the lookout for new people that might be interested in the Gospel, and because we've already called everyone in our contacts a bazillion times, we've decided to  e x p a n d  to find people through Facebook. Israel with be gathered whether you like it or not 😤

And now... 📖 story time 📖

'Twas a Sunday morning, and we had departed on our bikes to make it to the anticipated church service at 9am. Wind blowing in our helmets and bike chains zipping down the pavement, we raced to the chapel down hills and around corners. Elder Lamb led up front, Elder Chelson carried the back, and I in the middle rode cluelessly of what would happen next.

We banked a right and continued onward, oblivious to the crash that sounded behind us. Elder Chelson had taken the turn too fast; he tripped the curb, launching him into a fence. We rode and we rode to get to church quick, gaining too much distance to hear his cry for help. Minutes had passed and I took a look behind, only to come to the realization that we were indeed supposed to be in a trio. We turned around and retraced our tracks just to see a sight straight out of a zombie movie.

After being thrown off of his bike, Elder Chelson had flown onto a metal-pointed fence, landing on his left shoulder first, and his face soon after. His intent was to play it off and get back on his bike, but the bloody scene indicated much worse. He cried for help, but we had gone too far, so on nearby doors he knocked, but not one was answered.

In the middle of the street wobbled a half-conscious missionary, and as we closed the distance between us, horror pulsed through my very being. Shirt torn, hand over his mouth, with blood dripping on his "Sunday best", he told us he needed help, and the paramedics were called shortly after. The fence had torn through his shirt and pierced his shoulder, however the puncture in his lip definitely proved the most urgent for attention.

We didn't end up going to sacrament meeting that morning 😔 but just a few hours later Elder Chelson returned back to the apartment with a bunch of stitches. And being the absolute machine that he is, we still managed to get eight lessons that day!

The End
*applause*

I love you all! And for those that read this whole thing, I love you even more.

2) *GRAPHIC-ish* Here's Elder Chelson just after the crash. It's hard to see in the lighting, but his lip has a big ol' gash in it!

4) On a lighter note, here's a pic of the coolest district in the entire world! I am the luckiest district leader ever to have these studs in my life! I love them all so much!!

Week 27

Wasssuuuuuuuuuuup! I hope everyone's been well!

This past week, the focus of the mission has been getting the people we're teaching to church. This has been a super hard goal for us to reach in the past, cause there are many people that don't feel safe congregating in large groups (especially cause a majority of the ward I cover is a bunch of old people jaja). But it's definitely a blessing to be gathering in weekly sacrament meetings, and hopefully half of the congregation will be all of the people we're teaching right now!

I also had my very first street contact in almost 5 months!! (I'm not sure if it was exactly permitted by the Corona guidelines we have... 😰) But we were just walking to a nearby chapel to do some calls, and along the way there sat a scuffed up man with some Doritos and a beer can next to his feet. We said "Hola!" and thus started one of the most unintelligible conversations I've ever had. He was clearly drunk, and even after praying for the gift of tongues, I could only understand about 10% of the words that came out of his mouth.

When we came back from the chapel, he was still there in the same spot, but with a small pile of vomit next to him this time 😝. However, we still managed to figure out that he is in great need of a job and we also taught that his Heavenly Father loves him very much, and that we can feel His love through prayer.

That definitely wasn't what I imagined my first street contact to be like, but I'll take it! See you all next week!
